Dr. Alok Kumar Associate Professor of Law is a distinguished legal academician and researcher specializing in Judicial Accountability, Constitutional Law, Procedural Laws, and Human Rights. About Me

Dr. Alok Kumar has a robust academic background, reflecting his deep engagement with legal studies and research. He earned his Ph.D. in Law, focusing on “Judicial Accountability in India: An Analytical Study.” His research in this domain has contributed to the evolving discourse on judicial transparency and accountability in India. Prior to his doctoral research, he qualified the UGC NET, showcasing his strong academic foundation in legal studies. This qualification further enabled him to contribute effectively to teaching and research in higher education institutions. Dr. Kumar pursued his LL.M. from Law School, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, in 2008. His master's degree equipped him with specialized knowledge in various aspects of law, strengthening his research and analytical capabilities.He completed his LL.B. from Law School, BHU, Varanasi, in 2006, which laid the foundation for his legal expertise. During his undergraduate studies, he actively engaged in moot courts, legal research, and academic discussions, sharpening his advocacy and analytical skills.


Currently, Dr. Kumar serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Law at Sarala Birla University, where he plays an instrumental role in legal education, research, and policy discussions.Previously, he held several key academic positions. From June 2018 to October 2024, he was an Associate Professor of Law, Head of the Department (Law), and Assistant Dean – Faculty of Law at The ICFAI University, Jharkhand. Before that, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, The ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from August 2013 to May 2018.Earlier in his career, Dr. Kumar served as a part-time Lecturer at University Law College, V.B.U., Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, from February 2011 to July 2013. He also worked as a Teaching Associate at Unison School of Law, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from 2009 to 2010.

Dr. Kumar specializes in various legal fields, including Contractual Laws, Constitutional Law, Procedural Laws, and Mining Laws. His expertise in these areas enables him to provide in-depth legal education and contribute to ongoing legal discourse. Course Introduction:

The criminal jurisprudence framework in India was in dire need of modernization due to its outdated nature and inefficiency in dealing with current challenges. The BNSS aims to revamp the criminal justice system by integrating technological advancements and addressing procedural obstacles. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) was introduced to replace the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 (CrPC). The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is a substantial overhaul of the CrPC. Essentially; the criminal procedure code is designed to look after the process of the administration and enforcement of the criminal law. The BNSS is a progressive legislation that strives to establish a more effective, transparent, and user-friendly criminal justice system. It aims to modernize and streamline India's criminal justice system. The BNSS aims to address the issues of delay in delivery of justice due to complex procedures, large pendency of cases in courts, low conviction rates, low level of use of technology in legal system, delays in investigation and inadequate use of forensics. The BNSS 2023 modernizes criminal justice procedures with mandatory forensic investigations, stricter timelines for judicial processes, enhanced police powers with safeguards, and comprehensive revisions to bail and detention rules.
